    Featured Astronomer

Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543), Polish astronomer and mathematician, developed the heliocentric theory of the solar system, that the earth is in daily motion about its axis and in yearly motion around a stationary sun. This idea profoundly affected later views of the universe.
