Books and eBooks Catalog Searching At The University of Alabama

Scout

Use Scout to search The University of Alabama Libraries' catalog for books. Scout also simultaneously searches databases and Internet resources. Very useful for quick and general searches.

Classic Catalog

Use Classic Catalog to search The University of Alabama Libraries' catalog. This is our traditional library catalog search engine and is most useful for specific and highly focused searches.

Scout - Journals and Journal articles

First check the UA Library catalog:

  • Scout
  • Search by "Journal Title"
  • The catalog record will indicate whether UA currently subscribes to the journal in print and electronically. It also may have a direct link to electronic access of the journal.

Electronic access to journal articles

  • As mentioned above, the library catalog record may provide a link for electronic access to the journal.
  • Use the E-journals link on the Bruno homepage to determine if full text electronic access is available.
  • Articles not available in print or electronically may be requested from ILL. (See below for ILL information.) If not many libraries subscribe to the journal, it may be difficult to obtain.

Databases with scholarly business content

SSRN

InterLibrary Loan

If UA does not own the book:

  • Universal Borrowing
  • Request the book from Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
    • The UA library will attempt to locate and borrow materials not owned by our libraries.
    • ILL - From the Bruno homepage, click "Using the Library" at the top of the page and then click on Interlibrary Loan.
    • Note that first time users register to get a username and password.
  • Hint: Use WorldCat to see how many other libraries own the book:
    • Choose "WorldCat" in the library database list
      • WorldCat is a combined library catalog of libraries throughout the world. If not many libraries carry the book, it may be difficult to obtain.
