Social Work: Using Interlibrary Loan for Books

This subject is guide is intended to assist students, faculty, staff and alumni of the School of Social Work in locating specific resources in the field of social work.

What if our library doesn't have a book I need?

If the UA Libraries do not have a book you are looking for, the Interlibrary Loan department of at Gorgas Library will request the book from another university library and you can 'borrow' it for approximately 3-4 weeks. To set up an Interlibrary Loan account, go the library homepage and click on the link to Interlibrary Loan in the grey column on the left side of the screen. You will need to fill out a form to set up your account one time. After that, you will simply provide information on the item you need and you will be notified via e-mail when it has arrived and is ready to be checked out.

Interlibrary Loan is an incredible service provided to users, but there is one thing to keep in mind. When you don't begin a paper or project in a timely manner, interlibrary loan may not be able to provide you with the books you need. It takes approximately 5-10 days for a book to arrive, so plan ahead.
