How can I find out more about University Libraries?

How do I?

       ·     How do I borrow books?

All you need is your Action Card. You can check out up to 50 books for up to 30 days (undergraduates) and 60 days (Graduate students). Books are shelved  using  the Library of Congress call numbering system. Books can be checked out at the circulation desk of any library or use self-service checkout. Note that there are many electronic books available in the collection.

·      What types of technology do the Libraries offer?

Wireless connectivity PC and Mac workstations Loaner laptops, Power outlets Printers, Creative software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, iLife and Google Sketch-Up Pro. Plus many more course specific software such as MATLAB, ChemCAD, ChemBio Office. For details contact Subject specific Library

·     Can I make copies and/or print in the library?

Yes. Self-serve photocopiers and laser printing is available  in the libraries.  It costs .5 cents a copy for black and white and .15 cents for color. The copier and printer accepts Bama cash (not dining dollars) or community user card. Value can be added to the cards  using cash  value adding machine located in each library.

·      Sometimes I can’t make it to the library, can I do research online?

Yes. From UA libraries website you are able to access hundreds of subscription-based resources that aren’t available through regular Internet search engines. Log on with your MyBama username and password.   

·     Can I work in the Libraries?

Yes. The Libraries’ job openings are included in the University of Alabama’s student employment page accessible through myBama. Information about applying for library student jobs is at www.lib.ua.edu/employment
