Introduction

The University of Alabama Libraries offers many resources and services to support the academic pursuits of students. This research guide outlines how you can access those resources and services to your own benefit. As your librarian, please feel free to contact me whenever you need assistance while using the library!

Library Services

Access

  • Community Users and UA Dependents may check out books in any of the University Libraries by purchasing a Bama Borrower’s Card at the Gorgas Library Circulation Desk.
  • Scout - The University of Alabama's discovery service, searching content from hundreds of electronic databases, print resources from our library catalog, e-books, videos, news and more.
  • Libraries' Catalog - The catalog is a record of the University Libraries' holdings: print and electronic books, films, sound recordings, musical scores, government documents, and more (no articles).

Resources

  • The SMC provides consultations and trainings on using audiovisual equipment
  • The Music Library  contains over 50,000 scores and books, 350 periodical titles, and 20,000 audio and video recordings, with availability in formats such as CDs, LPs, video cassettes, and DVDs.
  • Study Space - UA Libraries has group study rooms at several locations. 
  • News - Current events, new resources, and announcements.
  • Hours - Current hours for all UA Libraries.

Ask-A-Librarian

  • Students can ask librarians questions via email or through our Ask-A-Librarian chat service
  • UA Libraries also has dozens of video tutorials on how to use certain databases
  • If you have never been to Gorgas, you can take a virtual tour of the library to find out where to study or access resources
