Employer/Company News

Finally got a job interview?  You will be expected to know everything about a company, their products and their competitors.  This section will give you the databases needed to be able to answer those, "So, what can you tell us about our XYZ product line?" type of questions. To find information about the company you are interviewing with, use the following databases:

Hoovers Online
This is a great database to find out information on both 'Blue Chip' companies and 'Mom & Pop' operations.  Enter the name of the company in the search box.  When getting ready for an interview, sections to focus on include Overview, History and Products/Operations.

Business Insights: Essentials
This database provides excellent background information and company histories.  There are also links to industry information and SWOT analysis for selected companies.  Perfect for the, "What do you know about the roasted coffee business?" questions.  Once you have picked a company, the 'Articles about this company' section will take you to news stories about related company items.

Factiva
Searches thousands of newspapers, both international and domestic.  Chances are if the company you are interviewing with has been in the news, Factiva will have the story.  Type in your search term and play around with the date parameters to get a more comprehensive list of articles.

LexisNexis Academic
Another database that searches thousands of newspapers globally.  Additionally, it can search radio and television transcripts, blogs, foreign language news and SEC filings.
