Theatre History: Videos

A guide library resources for the study of theatre history

Finding Videos

The Music Library has a new database to make searching for videos easier. You can do a title search or browse by genre or language.  Check it out here!

You can also search for videos using Advanced Search in the Libraries' Catalog.  If you know the exact title of the video you are looking for, enter it in the first search box as a "title" option. (Be sure to select "as a phrase" for best results.)  Then type "DVD" in the second box. Typing "videorecording" instead will retrieve both DVDs and VHS tapes.  Sometimes you may wish to do a more complex search for videos.  For instance, suppose you want to find all the videos of Shakespeare's plays produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Type "Shakespeare, William: into the first search box, choose "as a phrase," and then "Author" from the drop-down boxes. Type "Royal Shakespeare Company" into the second search box and "videorecording" in the third. You will retrieve all the videos the library owns of Shakespeare productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
