A great first stop for checking the accuracy of claims you find on the Internet, Snopes has thousands of fact-checking articles that investigate and document the accuracy or inaccuracy of many of the claims that circulate on social media and partisan websites.

An independently-run nonprofit site that fact-checks claims made by politicians, pundits, and internet memes.

A project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, FactCheck.org is "a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics." Their tools include SciCheck, which "focuses exclusively on false and misleading scientific claims that are made by partisans to influence public policy."
