International Open Access Week

Open Access Week 2023

University Libraries to Host International Open Access Week Celebrate the upcoming International Open Access Week, a global effort organized by SPARC, with University Libraries. University Libraries will host a three day #OAWeek program on October 23-25 in Gorgas Library, with opportunities to attend sessions to learn about open access publishing, copyright and fair use, and how faculty and students can promote their scholarship through the Institutional Repository (IR). To register, visit: https://ejbarreras.wufoo.com/forms/sh5gzh71r8c4hc/    This year’s theme is “Community over Commercialization” and encourages a candid conversation about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community—and which do not. Selected by the Open Access Week Advisory Committee, this year’s theme provides an opportunity to join together, take action, and raise awareness around the importance of community control of knowledge-sharing systems. University Libraries continues to promote and support an open, inclusive, and diverse environment for creating and disseminating knowledge and scholarly communication. To learn more about sharing your research in the Institutional Repository, visit the IR Libguide or contact Elaine Walker, Scholarly Communications Librarian, at ir@ua.edu.

Open Access Week 2022

Celebrate the upcoming International Open Access Week, a global effort organized by SPARC , with University Libraries. University Libraries will host a two day #OAWeek program on October 24th and 25th in Gorgas Library, with opportunities to attend sessions to learn about copyright and fair use, open educational resources, predatory publishers, and how faculty and students can contribute to open scholarship through the Institutional Repository (IR). To register, visit https://bit.ly/3SkNeuR . This year’s theme is “Open for Climate Justice” that seeks to encourage collaborations among climate researchers and the open access community. The Open Access Week Advisory Committee supports the notion that “sharing knowledge is a human right and tackling the climate crisis requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries.” University Libraries continues to promote and support an open, inclusive, and diverse environment for creating and disseminating knowledge and scholarly communication. To learn more about sharing your research in the Institutional Repository, visit the IR Libguide or contact Elaine Walker, Scholarly Communications Librarian, at ir@ua.edu.
