Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
ILL provides free access to materials needed for coursework and research not available in the UA Libraries. The parameters of the service are governed by the current copyright law and guidelines, the National Interlibrary Loan Code, the lending institution’s policies and the UA Libraries policies.
Universal Borrowing (ALLIES)
Universal borrowing is a cooperative service offered by several academic libraries in the state, known as the “Alabama Libraries Exchange” or ALLIES. Items that are not currently available in the UA Libraries often may be obtained from other institutions.
You can check availability and request an item in the UA Libraries’ Catalog. You may also borrow materials in person at other ALLIES libraries using your UA Action Card.
The University Libraries allows for faculty members to place items on reserve for his or her courses. Reserve lists must be sumbitted at least 10 days in advance and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Faculty are responsible for ensuring that their course materials comply with copyright law.
Materials will be placed on reserve at the request of faculty only for the noncommercial, educational uses of students. Materials placed on Course Reserves will be made available to students and faculty only during the semester when the requesting instructor is teaching the course, and will be removed when the course is no longer in session. Electronic resources and reserves must be restricted to authorized users.
