Roll Tide Research

This guide introduces faculty to the Roll Tide Research (RTR) asynchronous learning modules, a set of flexible, accessible tutorials designed to help students strengthen their research skills.

Assessment Options

Roll Tide Research (RTR) modules include built-in tools that allow you to confirm student participation or assign graded work. You can choose the option that best aligns with your course goals.

Option 1: Multiple-Choice Quiz

  • Format: 10 multiple-choice questions.

  • Scoring: Graded automatically on a 10-point scale.

  • Purpose: Measures comprehension of the module’s key concepts.

  • Submission: Students can download or screenshot their quiz results and either email them to you or upload them to Blackboard.

  • Flexibility: Works well for tracking completion or awarding participation points.

Option 2: Performance Assessment

  • Format: The module’s guided practice document, an editable, hands-on activity sheet.

  • Purpose: Allows students to apply concepts from the module to their own research topic.

  • Customization: Responses will be unique to each student; this is an open-ended assessment.

  • Grading: You determine the criteria and assign the grade, ideal if you want to evaluate how students transfer skills into course-specific work.

  • Submission: Students can complete the document in Word, Google Docs, or on paper, and then email it to you or upload it to Blackboard.

Choosing an Assessment Approach

  • For completion tracking only: Use the module quiz.

  • For deeper application of skills: Assign the guided practice document.

  • For a blended approach: Require both the quiz and the guided practice document—quiz for completion, document for applied skill demonstration.
