Creating Data Management & Sharing Plans (DMSPs)

This guide is designed to get you started on writing Data Management (& Sharing) Plans for grant proposals.

NOAA Data Management Plans

NOAA is one of the leaders in data management and public access in the US Federal Government.

NOAA calls their DMPs a Data and Information Sharing Plan (DISP), but generally follows the same general requirements as other grants.

Important notes about NOAA data management and sharing:

  • Raw data must be submitted to the NCEI repository
  • Metadata needs to be created using the ISO 19139 standard
  • Pre-publication manuscripts must be submitted to the NOAA Central Library's Institutional Repository

Additionally, all data will need to be Public Access to Research Results (PARR) compliant
