What the Guidelines & Best Practices Say

  • Layout must be either two or three columns. In no cases should there be any empty columns. 
  • Scrolling should be limited as much as possible.
  • The left-hand column must consist of an “Ask a Librarian” box and “Contact Us” box. 
  • “Ask a Librarian” boxes may be customized to feature page specific information.

  • In all cases, try not to overwhelm users with too much information.  
  • Boxes explaining research strategies should be limited in use, visual rather than textual whenever possible, and very concise.
